DO YOU KNOW WHAT IS OC (OVER CLOCKING) ? HOW CAN YOU OVER CLOCK ? IS OVER CLOCK GOOD OR BAD FOR PC ?
What is
over clocking ?
In computing , overclocking is the method
of increasing the clock rate of a computer to exceed that
certified by the manufacturer. Usually
the voltage of the component is also increased to gain operational stability at
a high clock speed . when a component is over clocked it temperature rises and
power consumptions also . Due to this increase in heat , frequency and voltage
due to over clocking the chances a device may fail also increases . If the
voltage supplied is not increased or the heat released is not under control
chances of breakdown increase to a high level therefore many device warranties
state that overclocking and/or over-specification voids any warranty.
Note :- Normally, on modern
systems, the target of overclocking is increasing the performance of a major
chip or subsystem, such as the main processor or graphics controller, but other
components, such as system memory (RAM) or system buses (generally on
the motherboard), are commonly involved.
What is the limit for over
clocking ?
Answer to this question is hypothetical over clocking has no limit the
thing is that if voltage given and heat reduced are balance to optimal state
over clocking can be done to a great extent but till date the most gigahertz
got by a 8.723 GHz AMD Piledriver-based FX-8370 chip and its not the limit
we can go more far and of we compare it to a daily use pc it’s a lot of speed
like we have 3 ghz and it 8.7 which is a lot of gigs.
What is under clocking ?
Under clocking is to reduce power consumption of a
component and the resultant heat generation of a device, by lowering clock
speeds and reductions in performance. Reducing the cooling requirements needed
to keep hardware at a given operational temperature has knock-on benefits such
as lowering the number and speed of fans to allow quitter operations , and in mobile devices
increase the length of battery life per charge. Some manufacturers under clock
components of battery-powered equipment to improve battery life, or implement
systems that detect when a device is operating under battery power and reduce
clock frequency accordingly.
Is over clocking harmful
or not ?
Answer to this question is partially true and false . Basically , if you overclock anything it emits more
heat if heat is controlled then its totally normal but every chipset has its
limit like a max of 5 ghz can be take out from i9 chipset . If we talk about
graphic processors then company provides us choices of oc edition card most of
cards are oc edition now a days . To over clock the card over the companies
limit are not good cause after a limit increase in speed stops and the result doesn’t
have a lot of increase in speed so its recommended that oc should be done under
the limit stated by the company and If you do oc have proper cooling of the
system.
